I’m not a rocket scientist! But I know who’s not! Remember science? It was usually 7th or 8th period, if you didn’t have AP. AP was 2nd or 3rd. We learned about molecules and genomes and inertia. It was boring as shit. But there was a whole subculture of super smart nerds, as there has been since science became established curriculum. Kids who took the work to heart and went on to excel in anonymity. The kids that took the Westinghouse class sophomore year, so that they could spent their junior and senior years preparing for the finals.
Which brings me to my point. There are a lot of smart people out there. People with the ability to solve math equations that would plot a course to Mars, or people to man a small outpost in Greenland, recording receding glaciers and the rising tides and water temperatures. Or they could be epidemiologists, those nerds that spent hours peering down a microscope. There’s gotta be a lot of them out there. Like really, really, really smart people. Not Sean Hannity. Scientists! What happened to all the scientists? Good Lord, I swear they used to be here! Were they banished by the president or just largely ignored because they polled poorly.
Hillary was going to give Scientists a larger platform and establish the President Hillary Clinton Initiative to fund Scientists to save our asses in case something like this ever happened. Barack left Trump a present on his way out. A trove of research and a blueprint for dealing with a pandemic. He even set up a division of the National Security Council to explore the likely hood of a global pandemic. Trump disbanded it in 2018. Hillary would have done the right thing. Hillary was smart. Trump thought it would be a good idea to try and resurrect the coal industry. Are you kidding me! Say this in your best Trump voice “We’re going to make America great again, and we’re going to do it with coal! We’re going to have so much coal and we’re going to build a wall!” “A giant wall of coal!’
I digress. It’s time to face the facts. Trump’s not a smart man. Forrest Gump is a smart man. Trump is stupid. Trump has created a culture of stupidity. And the smart people, in order to be politically correct, just look at our feet when you all tell us how much America needs a wall. You know what America needs right now ? A cure! And a lot of really smart people to keep things from falling apart while the other smart people work on a cure. One note of comfort. Most of the smart people didn’t vote for him, because we know a train wreck when we see one.” So we will be here next January, you all, to guide you out of the shit show. It will be nice to have science back. “Let’s make America smart again!”
